TOP 3!APRIL Should Adults still read YA Books?!?

I didn't realize that there was a very strong opinion about Adults reading YA books until I saw Leee talk about it. See the vid below:

More importantly, the vid made me have a somewhat strong response about it too.

YES. A resounding anesh.

Here are my reasons:

1) I read for fun and YA is fun.

I read a wide range of books. It really depends on my mood. When I was growing up, I really only had access to Sweet Valley series. These dystopian books were no where when I was growing up. Should I be limited to the events of my younger days? And, completely ignore the advances in YA literature? It's like I shouldn't be using smartphones because I'm too old for it.

Read what you want.
Fuck what anyone thinks.

2) YA can be introductions to other genres.
If you want to get into other genres, YA titles of that genre are great transition books. Although there's great rewards to jumping head first, sometimes it can be quite overwhelming. YA offers a chance to take baby steps into another type of writing or world.

3) YA is my idea of escapism.
There are many other types of books for this. For me, YA is entirely different field to prance around in. Some people like romance, other like sci-fi, I like some YA. It's a preference. Besides, YA has an entirely set of different problems. They can be non-adult problems. Regardless, they offer a different perspective of the world. That, alone, is priceless.

If you are way past your teens but still enjoy reading YA, go for it. The important bit is that you are reading. And, reading (wisely) is always a good thing.
